  • Departures_Train#2 is a short video created for the 2012 celebration of Art’s birthday. The media arts collective Video Pool, based in Winnipeg, Canada, put out a call to members for light-themed videos for their Lite Nite event held on January 17, 2012. This is my contribution, and my first attempt at abstract video. Using clips of out of focus lights (street lamps, traffic lights, headlights, signs) passing the window of the train as I departed from Vancouver BC, I attempted to use filters and compositing in editing to generate visual effects that reflect emotions I feel while traveling by train.

  • Every year for the last several I try and complete an Xmas video project. Typically I’m a stray during the holiday season, and with family far away I have plenty of time to edit video and record sound. This year however, I’m out in Vancouver B.C. with all the family surrounding me, so I dug up and re-cut this deleted scene from Freed the Puppet’s Overland. We shot this scene twice during the making of the film, and although this second pass worked well, I never put sound to the scene as it didn’t make the final cut. I’ve been meaning to release it on its own for a while, as a conversation through gesture and expression. The perfect little quickie holiday project. Credits are listed in the Vimeo description. Happy holidays!

  • We release Overland for public consumption. Produced in 2010 the film chronicles the migration of a character bound for new horizons. Shot in Montreal, Halifax, and on the train in between, Overland discovers through movement what is lost in leaving a place, and what is found along the way.

  • I produced this music video for Ingrid Gatin’s “Waking Up the Neighbours” in spring/summer 2011. The video description on Vimeo contains the credits. Ingrid is heading back into the studio this December to begin work on a new album. She’s had an incredibly busy year touring both to the east and west coasts of Canada, releasing an EP, and playing all the best Manitoba music festivals this past summer. And she’s getting set for an even bigger year in 2012, go Ingrid! Check out more of her music at www.myspace.com/ingridgatin and her label at www.pipeandhat.com
